The magic of the movies has been on the timetable for some Norfolk school pupils.

At EPIC Studios in Norwich yesterday students watched Singing in the Rain before working with film professionals to create their own short films about their views on the classic movie and why they enjoy their school film clubs.

The schools involved were Taverham Junior, White Woman Lane Junior, Rackheath Primary, and Acle St Edmund Primary School.

Sophie Bell, 10, from Rackheath Primary, said: 'I learnt that making movies takes a lot of work, even just a 10 minute film. I was surprised by how much work.

'My favourite part was making the DVD about our film club.'

Sam Young, 11, from Taverham Junior School, said: 'When I watch movies now I'm going to think a lot more about how they were made. I love watching films because they draw you away from reality and take you to a different world. It is like an adventure.'

Arwen Woodgate, nine, from Acle St Edmund Primary, said her favourite part of the event was being interviewed on camera.

Archie Bean, 11, from White Woman Lane Junior School, said: 'It was really good fun. You never really think about the people behind the cameras, and so the workshop has been a good insight into how films are made.'

The event was part of the East Anglia FILMCLUB Film Fest which has been organised by education charity FILMCLUB as part of its campaign to promote learning through film. Today students from The Hewett School and Needham Market Middle School are watching Son of Rambow before making their own films.
