Please Santa, can we have a new place to play? That is the Christmas wish of children at a village nursery school.

A £150,000 fund-raising appeal has been launched to provide a new home for Roughton Playgroup.

The playgroup is currently housed in an old mobile classroom, in the grounds of St Mary's Endowed School, which is becoming unfit for purpose for the increasing numbers of children.

Plans for the new building with two rooms and kitchen were approved earlier this year.

Playgroup supervisor Cheryl Collings said: 'The new building would be a huge improvement for the children and everyone involved in the playgroup and means the world to us.'

More than £500 was raised at the playgroup's Christmas Fayre, which is being donated to the appeal.

Staff members Jane James and Louise Laurence and committee member Cory Lucas are taking part in the Cromer Boxing Day dip to boost the total.
