The 'exceptional' leadership and management of a Norwich school for children with special education needs has been highly praised by Ofsted inspectors.

The latest inspection of Parkside School, in College Road, has seen the complex needs school judged as outstanding across the board.

The school, which teaches around 150 pupils aged seven to 17, was praised for its pupils' 'outstanding progress in all subjects, including English and mathematics' and also describes its teaching as 'outstanding'.

The report highlights the 'exceptional vision of the headteacher and his deputy' that 'inspires both the school and its community to ensure every pupil receives the support they need to make outstanding progress, both personally and in academic subjects'.

Headteacher Barry Payne said: 'We're really pleased that Ofsted has recognised all the good work that the children, staff and governors do here, particularly at a time of major change for the school.

'We're delighted with the result but we're always looking to develop the school and do the best we possibly can, which means forming more partnerships to improve facilities and offer more opportunities for learning inside and outside of the school day.

'This will ensure that we are able to meet the new challenges that face us in the future and will enable every child at our school to feel confident and independent by the time they leave us.'
