A shop which provides school uniforms to dozens of primary and secondary schools across Norwich has announced it is to close.

The Schoolwear Centre, on Ber Street, has confirmed it will go into liquidation from January 30 after 12 years of trading.

The business, which supplies uniforms to 65 schools and employs 11 members of staff, had difficulties last summer after problems with suppliers meant orders were delayed.

It will continue to trade until January 30, offering 50pc off all its stock, and parents with outstanding orders that are ready for collection must arrange to collect them before that date.

Schools will be forced to look for new uniform providers.

Lee Green, of accountants Larking Gowen, which will oversee the liquidation, said: 'The company initially experienced difficulties in the summer of 2016 when it faced delays from suppliers and was forced to out source embroidery work for a much higher premium to ensure as many orders as possible were fulfilled before the start of the autumn term.

'Unfortunately, it was not possible to fulfil all orders on time.'

The after-effects of summer and a seasonal downturn in trade then 'exacerbated' the company's financial problems.

'Despite a successful trading history, which has seen profits generated year on year since incorporation, the directors recognised that the company was struggling to recover from the setbacks of the summer and they looked to obtain a sale of the business shortly before Christmas,' Mr Green said.

'Despite initial interest from two independent parties no offer was forthcoming.'

Anyone owed money by the company should contact Anne-Marie Harding at Larking Gowen on 01603 624181.
