Campaigners who presented a 750-signature petition supporting the Hewett School in Norwich have said they are 'nervously waiting' the Department for Education's next move.
It was put in special measures in November, and Norfolk County Council, which is proposing it become a learning village, is waiting for the government to approve the appointment of interim governors.
Stephen Little, who handed in the petition yesterday, said: 'In many respects the council has done what we have asked for, in the sense that they have produced an alternative to becoming an academy. We are not entirely happy with certain aspects, and we would have preferred that the governors remained in place.'
