Live update: Norwich GCSE students in line for record results – how did your school do?

It is already looking like another record-breaking year for a number of schools in the Norwich area as students collect their GCSE results today.

The Hewett School, Hellesdon High and Sewell Park College have all posted their best-ever results.

But there is some concern from headteachers about the grading of English GCSE exams. Many schools are finding their results are considerably below what they were expecting in English, meaning a number of students hoping to get an all-important C-grade are falling short.

It is thought grade boundaries may have been changed for one exam taken this summer, leading to the discrepancy.

'Congratulations to our pupils on an excellent set of results. For the fourth consecutive year, over 70pc of all grades were at A* or A and a third of the girls achieved straight A*/A grades. There are also impressive instances of individuals persevering or overcoming difficulties to achieve good results thanks to their hard work and the dedication and support of staff and parents. The girls are all the more impressive given their contribution and commitment to school life and the wider community and we are excited about working with them in the sixth form.' 'Achieving over 50pc of grades at A* and 80pc at A*-A comfortably beats our previous record; indeed, these stunning results represent a step-change for us. We are very proud of the teachers and pupils who have achieved them, particularly because the pupils have also been at least as active as other year-groups in their participation in school life outside the classroom.' 'On the back of last week's Oxbridge success, we are pleased to have recorded the best GCSE results ever. The figure for students achieving five A*-C grades has risen by 40pc since becoming an academy. This, coupled with the five A*-G figure shows clearly that all students at the Open Academy are achieving above their potential. Overall, these results support the verdict Ofsted gave this year that the academy is 'rapidly improving.' Well done to staff and students who worked so hard and to parents for all their support.' We have raised their aspirations, broadened their horizons. Nor is the Academy standing still; we are already on track for even better results next year.' Rachel de Souza, principal.
