Parents at Phoenix St Peter Academy in Lowestoft received a letter this week from headteacher Nadia Paczuska about the incident which happened on Friday, September 14.

The letter, dated Monday, September 17 explains that a child was found with a craft knife in the classroom. The letter states no one was harmed and the blade itself was not revealed at any point.

One parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said his son asked if he could move schools following the incident.

He said: 'My child has asked me to move schools. We have had this before when he has been upset about something, he gave me the letter and you can understand why he wants to move.'

He added: 'I am not too happy about it today. Even a phone call during the day saying the kids are safe, we should have known about it a bit sooner.'

The same parent said while he understands the child may not have known what he was doing, the incident still made him uncomfortable.

He said: 'It does make me worry for the safety of my kids.

'You read all those things in American and England about teachers getting stabbed, the kid is in Year 3 but it does make you worry.'

In the letter Mrs Paczuska writes: 'This of course may be very alarming to parents and I want to assure you that it is highly unusual and that we take the safety of children very seriously.

A spokesman for Phoenix said: 'We can confirm that on Friday a child was found with a craft knife which was confiscated immediately. The blade of the craft knife was not at any point revealed, and no one was harmed.

'We take the safety of our children extremely seriously and are conducting a full and thorough investigation into how this happened, with support from REAch2, children's social care and the police.

'We want to reassure parents that we have taken steps to ensure that this never happens again.'

Suffolk Police have been contacted but are yet to comment.
