Children and staff at a King's Lynn primary school are celebrating after an Ofsted report rated them 'good', which is up from 'requires improvement' two years ago.

Gaywood Community Primary School, in Field Lane, has 417 pupils on roll, aged from four to 11.

Since its last inspection in 2014, the report states: 'The school's leaders, including governors, have secured significant improvements in the quality of education pupils receive. Hence, standards are rising and pupils make good progress in a wide range of subjects across the school.'

It goes on: 'Pupils are very positive about school and enjoy all it has to offer. They feel safe and happy.

'Subjects are taught through themes that are highly stimulating and which provide excellent scope for work across different subjects.

'In particular, themes such as Moby Dick or the Rainforest provide pupils with a context to develop a wide range of writing. Standards of writing are high.'

To improve further, the report says the school needs to make sure all pupils develop their ability to work quickly with numbers. It must also improve the transition to new classes and further develop the school's leadership by ensuring all subject leaders are confident about driving developments and improvements in their areas.

Headteacher Paul Shanks said: 'We are really pleased with the Ofsted report.

'Such a positive report reflects the hard work put in by the staff and children, with the parents and governors working together.

'It gives us a good platform for going forward.'
