Jennifer Killick, author of the Alex Sparrow book series, received a warm welcome from pupils at Howard Junior School in King's Lynn during her visit on Monday.

The best-selling author's books, which feature wildlife including a hedgehog called Mr Prickles, were a recommended read for this year's Summer Reading Challenge across the UK.

Pupils at the school presented her with a hedgehog which had been shaped from a book, and she was also shown around the school's Inspire Suite.

Children were also able to meet Ms Killick during a book-signing session.

Greg Hill, executive headteacher at Howard Junior School, said she had 'inspired' pupils through writing workshops, which had led to some 'amazing' work.

On Twitter Ms Killick she was 'so grateful' to have been invited to the school.

Books for Schools

Our Books for Schools Campaign is well underway and hundreds of schools across the region have already signed up to win their share of £20,000 worth of free books.

With more than 700 titles to choose from the campaign is helping primary schools restock their libraries and encouraging children to get reading.

The campaign is free to take part in and schools will receive £100 worth of free books per 1,000 tokens collected, with a bonus £2,500 for the four top collecting schools.

Books for schools follows in the footsteps of our successful Sports for Schools campaign earlier this year, which saw £20,000 worth of sports equipment given away to schools across Norfolk and Waveney.
