Brandon's IES Breckland Free School is said to be making 'reasonable progress', ten months after it was plunged into Special Measures.

A report released before Christmas showed that the school is on the road to recovery, achieving the best possible result in a monitoring inspection carried out on November 19 and 20.

Alison Tilbrook, principal, said the whole school - staff, students and governors - had pulled together to make changes since she took over in February last year.

'We are very pleased with the report,' she said.

'There were two possible judgments and we've done as well as we can.

'The inspector was very positive about our progression and I'm very proud of what we are achieving here.

'Everyone is on board with the direction we are going in and I feel very privileged to be part of it.'

The school was given particular praise for the improvement in the quality of students' work.

Teaching is also improved. However, there were concerns raised that some teachers did not set high enough standards for students.

Students' behaviour has improved, but again teachers were said to not be enforcing strict enough parameters on some occasions.

The senior leadership was also praised. The appointment of more heads of department has added stability to the management team, according to the report.

A further monitoring inspection report is expected to take place later this term, according to Ms Tilbrook.
