School pupils have launched a new programme to help keep primary age children fit and healthy.

Pupils at Hemblington Primary School launched their Bike Walk Scoot Club on September 20, the first in a programme on offer to all 52 schools for primary-aged children in the Broadland District.

The club, which involves pupils and their parents and guardians committing to make active journeys at least three days a week, follows a successful pilot project at Kinsale Infant and Junior schools last year.

The pilot resulted in an increase of more than 50pc in the number of pupils cycling, walking or scooting to school and a reduction of more than 50pc in school traffic polluting the area around the school gates.

Any schools which want to register an interest in the programme can contact the Broadland team with no obligation at: community.safety@broadland.gov.uk or on 01603 430510.
