There are plenty of opportunities for young people in Norfolk to give back to their local community and gain vital experience for later in life. If you're looking to fill your spare time, get ahead when it comes to getting a job, or extra experience for your university application, why not give volunteering a go?
Here are three volunteering opportunities currently available in Norfolk:
• Located in Old Catton, Sue Ryder is looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to help boost the sales which fund its healthcare services. It is suitable for anyone aged 14-25 - ideal for young teens needing work experience. Training is provided and time commitment is flexible, so why not try this and help fund life-changing care to people living with the challenges of life-limiting conditions?
• If you're under the age of 18 (ideally 15-17) and looking to travel to a different country where you can volunteer by engaging with local communities, GVI UK can help you with this amazing opportunity. You'll develop a deeper understanding of the world's issues and experience different cultures. The many available projects are packed with adventure and provide cultural awareness so you'll return with new friends and unforgettable memories.
• Love the outdoors? Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week, you can do a different conservation task around Norwich. It might be felling trees, clearing a pond, planting trees or even clearing scrub. There's no previous experience necessary, and you can work at your own pace. This volunteering job increases your teamwork, organisation and communication skills.
Volunteering can be rewarding to you and others, and most importantly, the money raised from it or the work you do can brighten up someone else's day, make it easier for someone to go through a tough time, or even help save someone's life.
