As September quickly approaches, those moving up and into A2 are finding themselves asking the same question: 'What's next?'

For many, university is a definite, however others aren't too keen on it. Here are a few options for those who think university isn't for them.

Apprenticeships are becoming increasingly popular for young people. It is perfect for those who prefer a more hands on approach whilst learning, and is a job with an accredited qualification. With more and more apprenticeship opportunities opening, there are many to choose from such as mechanics, child care and even nursing.

Degree level apprenticeships and higher apprenticeships are now offered where you can earn up to a masters level with no fees. Although currently rare, it is slowly changing and IT degree apprenticeships are currently being run in England.

Distance learning schemes are also becoming more common, especially for those who don't want to 'put their life on hold' for uni. If you're a distance learner, this means you work towards your degree by studying at home, creating a more flexible schedule for your lifestyle.

This is also perfect for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable moving away from home just yet and courses even offer you online tutors for support.

Universities such as Anglian Ruskin, Leicester, Oxford and many more now offer distance learning as a new alternative, and it is something I personally am looking into.

Another option for young people is to go into full time work. This is a popular choice for those who either are looking to travel in the future or for those who don't need a degree for their career choice.

Going straight into full time employment can open up many new opportunities and allows you to get a head start working towards your career goals.
