Young people are infamous these days for their lack of aspiration towards their futures, but is this justified?

An ambition is, by definition, a strong desire to do or achieve something. This is usually coupled with inspiration, sometimes from someone famous or historic, and can be used as a starting point for what someone wants to do in their life.

Although many people believe we don't have many aspirations for the future, all it takes is a look into a classroom or a friendship group to find out the opposite. Young people often feel very stressed about their exams for this very reason – their exams are sometimes key to their ambitions!

An example of an ambition is to become a photographer – the picture here shows that this is indeed something people in Norfolk aspire to be! The two photograph prints shown in the picture were taken by GCSE students and displayed at Dereham Windmill as part of an exhibition, showing what budding photographers and artists could do.

Even the fact that their work is in an exhibition could help to inspire them further, combatting the idea that young people do not have aspirations for the future.

The point I'm trying to make is that the negative viewpoint we're seen from is often because of our 'lack of aspiration', but in fact young people do have aspirations, and plenty of them.

A lot of the time, they just need a bit of support or that extra little push to help achieve them.
