Education leaders offered chance to improve language skills for worse-off pupils

Education leaders in Norfolk can learn how schools are using a new programme to improve literacy skills among disadvantaged pupils at an open day organised through Oxford University Press.
By developing children's vocabulary, the Read Write Inc education programme helps to address problems associated with the 'word gap' identified by the Department for Education.
It found that children from disadvantaged backgrounds were, on average, by the age of three, almost a full year and a half behind their more affluent peers in language development.
During the day, visitors will be able to observe lessons, meet other schools, get advice on how to implement the programme and see the positive impact on behaviour across the school.
The event is open to all headteachers and literacy leads from schools in the local area, and will be held at North Walsham Infant School on Monday, March 19.
