The school's annual awards evening was held on November 21, with school governor and county councillor Brian Hannah the guest of honour.

Mr Hannah told the audience of students, parents and teachers: 'The communities of Sheringham and Holt should be rightly proud of your success.'

In total, 72pc of students achieved five or more A* to C grades (including English and maths) at GCSE.

Tim Roderick, headteacher, said: 'I am so proud of our students. These statistics clearly demonstrate how well we are doing as a school.

'Education however is not just about top exam performance – important as this is. It's about students leaving school with a range of intellectual and social skills and becoming good, participative citizens in our democratic country - our students will leave with these skills.

'The national media can be dominated by bad news of a minority. It's essential for us however to celebrate the good news of the vast majority. These young people are simply wonderful and a credit to the school, their parents and the wider community.'
