Collecting results is a major milestone in a young person’s life, as they discover more about their next steps, from university and college courses to apprenticeship or entry into the world of work.

However, the coronavirus pandemic means almost all students will be receiving their results remotely missing out on the ritual picking up that dreaded envelope at school with friends and classmates.

This live list of results from schools in Norfolk and Waveney will be updated as results come in to us, appearing alphabetically.

PLEASE NOTE: Except where 2020 figures have been supplied, the figures shown below are the percentage of A* to C grades students at school and colleges achieved in last year’s results, given purely as a guide.

Comparing like for like can be difficult at the best of times and it is impossible this year as students have not sat exams.

Instead schools and colleges have effectively provided an assessment grade, which was fed into the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.

They took that grade, looked at schools’ past performance and the overall assessment results nationally and then assigned a grade for each qualification. On this basis it’s not possible to make any comparisons with previous years.

This is a reflection of all their hard work over the two years of their courses, and especially during the really difficult past few months. As in every year, some of our students have done better than expected and some haven’t achieved what they’d hoped to. We’re working hard with them to look at the options available and to help them take the very best decisions.”

David Pomfret, principal, said: “I am delighted with the strong A-level results our students have achieved again this year. We are thrilled that of the grades awarded to our students, 50pc are at grade B or above. I’d like to thank all our staff and students, who have worked tirelessly throughout the year in these exceptional circumstances. We are so proud of everything our students have achieved during their time with us and we wish them every success in their future endeavours. Unfortunately, the statistical standardisation process introduced in place of exams has unfairly disadvantaged a small number of students. The college will fully support those students affected to achieve the grades that they deserve.”

Dereham Sixth Form College

Jonathan Atkin and Dave Brook, co-directors of the college, said: “Congratulations to all of our students. We are pleased to see that against a national picture of 40pc of grades being changed, our results have continued to be consistently strong, with 30pc of grades being A*-A grades or vocational equivalents. This is testament to how well the teaching staff at DSFC know the students and the standards our cohort were working at.”

making it the third year of significant improvement. Both A*- A grades and A*-B grades have also improved. Sarah Hartshorn, principal, said: “It has been difficult year for the students and their families, and for the schools and communities they serve. The unprecedented response to the Covid-19 pandemic has forced us to take a different approach to producing the results for our students. Our destination data, historically, is well above national average, and based on current information we are looking at continuing this trend. With over 98pc of our students being able to move onto their chosen next stage in their journey. We hope to match and exceed the percentage achieving their first choice university.”

Principal Mark Woodhouse said: “The challenges that schools and academies have faced this year alongside the rest of the country, in recent months, have been well documented. These of course have been amplified in the challenges that our students have faced in achieving their grades this summer which have been all the greater due to the difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Our students though have risen to the task and the grades that they have been awarded are a reflection of their hard work not just in the last few months but over the course of the last two years. The grades awarded are generally in line with what we would have expected students to have achieved this summer had they sat their final exams and will allow our students to progress onto the next stages of their lives. We should take nothing away from our students and their achievements this year. They should not only be proud of their achievements but they have all demonstrated the skills and qualities over the whole two years that show that they are excellent role models and that they can be successful in whatever they decide to do next in their lives. We wish our students all the very best for their future endeavours.”

Norwich High School for Girls

% of A* to C grades - 85pc (2019: 79pc)

Kirsty von Malaisé, headmistress, said: “We are so proud of all the girls’ individual achievements and all of the wonderful contributions they have brought to our school community. We were thrilled that nearly 1/4 of all our girls received A*s and nearly 50pc received thoroughly well-deserved A*-A grades. Whilst we have not been able to celebrate their Norwich High journey in the normal manner over the last few months, all of the girls have shown tremendous resilience, strong, positive character traits and I know will go on to achieve great things in their futures. I must also add congratulations to our whole staffing body who have worked tirelessly during these uncertain times to offer the best possible education, and continue to work to support our Sixth Form leavers to excel in their next steps, whatever they may be. We look forward to hearing about their ongoing successes in the very near future.”

Steffan Griffiths, head master, said: “We have been so impressed by the resilience and dignity of the 2020 cohort in the face of considerable adversity, not least the interruption to the rite of passage which should come with terminal examinations and end-of-school celebrations. In terms of the overall cohort position, as a result of the current situation we do not feel that we yet have an accurate sense of the wider picture. We will therefore wait for further clarification from and dialogue with the awarding bodies before publishing cumulative totals, either by subject or cohort. The school is focused on prioritising what is important at this point of the examination cycle: looking after individuals so that our leavers can go onto exciting, positive future routes. We already know that there have been many terrific performances over the two-year courses and our young people now have exciting pathways ahead of them.”

Tom Pinnington, head of school, said: “The school would like to publicly acknowledge the tremendous effort that all of our A level candidates have put into their studies over the last two years. The cohort have displayed strength of character in how they maturely handled the impact of Covid-19 on their studies and their exams. These qualities will serve them well in the future. Many of them have been awarded the grades that they deserve by the exam boards, however some have not been awarded grades that truly reflect their ability, work ethic or potential exam performance and these students will be the focus of our support over the next few days. The teachers and staff will continue to provide all students with the support that they require to continue their journey in education or future employment.”

Their clarity of thought, adherence to deadlines, fostering of a learning fellowship and honest resilience are qualities many would do well to emulate. As many embark upon university courses such as medicine, Chemistry, Geography and Law, or their chosen pathways in employment, we celebrate their successes, support them in their choices and follow them with fondness and interest as they become the leaders and policy-makers of the future.”

We have chosen not to publish our overall figure as we pursue some appeals on behalf of some students whose results do not fully reflect their ability and hard work. We are, however, reassured that the vast majority of our students have achieved the destinations that they wanted and deserve in these unique times.”
