Waste reduction efforts from a retailer have prompted another scheme to be launched.

The East of England Co-op launched the 'Co-op Guide to Dating' last year, becoming the first major retailer to sell products past their best before date.

A 'bottle for life' trial has launched at two East of England Co-op stores; Norwich Station and Nacton Road forecourt in Ipswich.

The trial sees the replacement of 500ml single-use still water plastic bottles. Customers will instead be able to purchase an eco-friendly bottle for life at just £2.49 which can be refilled with filtered, chilled or flavoured water for 50p.

If the bottle needs replacing, the East of England Co-op will exchange it free of charge.

The waste reduction efforts have been backed by Environment Minister Thérèse Coffey.

The trial began on February 16 and will run for 12 weeks in the two stores.
