A Norfolk couple who dumped a bed and sofa on a village roundabout have been fined for fly-tipping.

The East Harling couple have been fined £300 by Breckland Council, after it was reported by a member of the public and was inspected by the council's enforcement officer.

After an investigation the waste was then linked to the offenders who had dumped the items before moving home.

Alison Webb, the council's executive member for housing, health and environment at Breckland Council, said: "Fly-tipping is absolutely unacceptable and I share the frustrations of local residents who report fly-tipping to us.

"We will not hesitate to take action to make sure people pay and to deter people who may be thinking of doing this in the future."

Breckland Council is advising residents who discover fly-tipping to inform the council as quickly as possible, as this increases the chance of catching the culprits.

People are also being warned that they could be equally responsible for fly-tipping if they hire a rogue trader who does not have a legitimate waste carrier's licence.
