A 36-year-old funeral director hopes to lay his fear of flying to rest by doing a sponsored sky dive.

Lee Nelson, who lives in Norwich and works for Downham Market-based Downham Funeral Services, hopes to raise £2,000 for Nelson's Journey - a Norfolk-based charity which supports bereaved children.

Mr Nelson, who lives off the Ipswich Road in Tuckswood, with his partner Natalie Walker and daughters Megan, 15, and Daisy, eight, admitted: 'They're very nervous about it.

'I'm not very good at heights. I've never been abroad because I've got this fear of flying through the air, I don't know if it's a phobia, people who know me know that.

'So far, I've raised just under £1,800. It's a good charity, so I'm doing something right out of my comfort zone.

'I'm not going to bail out of it - no pun intended there. I thought it would be a worthwhile charity to do it for. I wanted something Norfolk-based as well.'

Mr Nelson, who is set to make his jump at the Beccles Heliport on Sunday, June 30, can be sponsored via Downham Funeral Services, in the town's Bridge Street; Gordon Barber Funeral Directors in Aylsham Road, Norwich and Brian Anthony hairdresser's in School Road, Sprowston.

Since it was formed, in 1997, Nelson's Journey has helped hundreds of children who have lost a sibling or parent.

Its mission statement is that no child in Norfolk should be left to face bereavement without the support they need to cope and move forward positively with their lives.
