Do you love a holiday spot enough to go back 50 times? Max does...

For the man from Matlock in Derbyshire is so in love with the Broads that he has been back more than 50 times.

Mr Edwards first pushed the boat out on our waterways in 1967 and has returned time and again to enjoy the tranquillity and wildlife.

He was 12 when he first visited, having convinced his parents to bring him.

He said the family had fallen in love with the Broads and returned regularly after that. 'I have been over 50 times since that first visit,' he said.

His love affair with the Broads continued after he met his wife Jean.

The couple set off from Wroxham on a three-week holiday to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Friday.

They spent their first holiday on the Broads together in 1976 and returned a year later for their honeymoon when they got married.

'We have come back nearly every year to celebrate our wedding anniversary since,' said Mr Edwards.

'This will be our third Broads holiday this year after we were here in March and August. March was really quiet while August was obviously a lot busier. It is different every time we come and that's why we enjoy it.'

The former local government employees are both retired.

'We're planning to do a bit of the northern and southern rivers on this journey. A lot of people avoid the southern rivers but they are really worth visiting.'

He said his favourite stretches of rivers were from Wroxham to Coltishall on the River Bure and from Beccles to Geldeston Lock on the River Waveney.

'The run up to Norwich is also very nice if you have the time. I'd suggest that anyone going to the Broads for a boating holiday give themselves at least a week.

'Short breaks are nice but you don't get to appreciate the Broads enough as you spend your time trying to race around and get it all in.'

Mr Edwards said they had already booked their boating holidays for next March, August and September, adding: 'In all the time we have been coming to the Broads we have never had a bad experience. Each visit has been different and special in its own right.'
