Diversity star Ashley Banjo says audiences are in for an “adrenaline-filled” show as his street dance group comes to Norwich this weekend.
The troupe’s circus-themed ‘Ignite’ show, which kicks off at Earlham Park tonight, features everything from aerial acrobatics to death-defying stunts.
Mr Banjo, who founded Diversity, said: “I think people can expect everything they might do from this show and everything they would like from Diversity - the tricks, the flips, the acrobatics, the pieces of comedy and creativity.
“But there is also a lot more. There is a lot of stunts, there is escapology, there is illusion and traditional circus.
“It is a really fun, adrenaline-fuelled kind of show.”
Diversity, which won Britain’s Got Talent nine years ago, has teamed up with leading circus company Gandey World Class productions for the event.
It takes place inside a 2,000 seat big top tent and follows the story of a young boy who runs away to the circus.
Mr Banjo, who created the show, said: “For me it [the story] is what underpins Diversity really.
“It is about a kid who wants to run away to the circus to follow his dream. He has not got a lot in the world, but he finds the circus and finds this potential to become something more.”
Around 40 performers will be taking part in the show, ranging from jugglers and acrobats to dancers and a clown.
Mr Banjo said he will also perform two escape acts, including one where he has just 60 seconds to free himself from the “jaws of death”.
Speaking about some of the other acts, he added: “The double wheel of death is heart stopping, you watch it and you can’t believe what you are seeing
“There are moments in the show where I do some really dangerous escapes.
“The room always goes silent, people can’t quite believe what I’m putting myself through.”
Diversity will join a growing list of high-profile acts to have performed at Earlham Park in recent years, following the success of events such as Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Let’s Rock festivals and Sunday Sessions.
• Diversity will perform at 3pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, October 6 and 3.30pm on Sunday, October 7 and you can purchase tickets on Ticketmaster and See Tickets.
