A 1926 Rolls Royce among a Norfolk man's large transport collection has sold at auction for £46,000 in Diss.

The Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe was among a collection owned by the late Peter Newton Bailey.

It auctioned at TW Gaze on Thursday night and bought by a Suffolk man.

Mr Bailey, who died earlier this year and was from the north of Norwich, had collected transport memorabilia over 60 years.

The auction of Mr Bailey's items featured about 150 lots, including two penny farthings and a 1876 Coventry Lever tricycle, which was sold for £9,000. The penny farthings went for a total of £4,000.

Enamel signs were well represented including a Best of all Singer Cycles sign, which went for £300.

Car, coach and cycle lamps were also auctioned off at the TW Gaze showroom.

They included a large brass Polkey patent head light which sold for £1,600, a pair of plated candle carriage lamps which went £550, and a Little Champion bicycle lamp sold for £440.

A spokes for the auctioneers said: 'When TW Gaze promoted a 1926 Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe as star lot in their September Automobelia Sale, great interest was sparked all over the British Isles and enquiries were received from collectors and enthusiasts near and far.

'In the evening, however, competitive bidding between absentee commission bidders and parties in the room was concluded when the gavel fell at £46,000 to a gentleman present at the auction.'
