Diss Waveney Rotary Club’s “Tommy” figure has been unveiled at Diss Corn Hall where he will stay until November 10

The 6ft figure is part of There But Not There, a national commemoration project led by former head of the army Lord Dannatt, who lives in Norfolk, that will see the sculptures at events across the country marking the 100th anniversary of the Great War armistice.

The Diss figure will on November 11 be moved to St Mary’s Church for the Armistice service, then on November 17 he will again be in St Mary’s for the Rotary club’s memorial concert “There But Not There”, with the Honington Military Wives Choir and reading of First World War poetry.

He will return to the Corn Hall on November 19 where he will, possibly, stay until December 5. But fter that date his movements are not certain.

The Rotary club are yet to find him a permanent home, their ideas and suggestions to date having fallen foul of bureaucracy. They are appealing for residents thoughts as to where “Tommy” could stay on a more permanent basis. Anyone with ideas can contact him at tommyontour@outlook.com
