A Diss playschool is celebrating after inspectors gave it the seal of approval and said it was a stimulating place for children to attend.

Merryfields Playschool, which has ten children aged two to four on its roll, has been rated as good by Ofsted following an inspection in November.

The inspection looked at four key areas - effectiveness of the leadership and management; the quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare and finally outcomes for children.

Ofsted rated the playschool, which is based at the sports pavilion on Shelfanger Road and was opened in 1989, as good in all four areas with a further overall finding that it was good in its quality and standard of early years provision.

The inspection report said: 'The learning environment is stimulating and interesting for children both inside and outside.

'Children benefit from a wide rage of opportunities across all area of learning which is planned to accommodate the individual needs and interests of all children.

'Staff are good role models. They teach children to be kind and polite to other, and support them to share and take turns.'

The report praised staff partnership working with parents, the leadership evaluation process, literacy skills support and also support for disabled and special education needs children.

Sharon Everitt, playschool supervisor, said: 'We have a dedicated team of staff, parents and volunteers who want the best for all the children that come to learn here.'

To gain the top rating of outstanding the playschool needs to offer a range of interesting and stimulating opportunities for children to learn about the diverse world they live in and the leadership needs a strategy of working in partnership with other settings children attend.
