1) Garwood Palmer founded Palmers on its site in the Market Place as a Linen Mercers and Silk Drapers in 1837
2) In 1880 Palmers was a long narrow shop between Rows 54 and 56 stretching back 200 feet
3) Palmers had a unique covered arcade in Row 54 with windows on both sides
4) The Prince of Wales officially launched Palmers 175th anniversary celebrations on 27th February 2012, pictured with Emma Sturrock
5) Princess Alexandra visited Palmers during the store's 150th anniversary in 1987
6) Palmers has continued trading through the reigns of seven monarchs: William IV, Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII, George VI, Elizabeth II
7) During the latter years of the 19th century young ladies who worked in the store lived in dormitories above the shop in the front part of the building
8) Palmers Apprenticeship Scheme to train its young employees in various aspects of the retail trade dates back to 1908
9) Palmers longest serving employee is Barry Moyse. Over 100 staff have completed more than 10 years service
10) When Palmers opened there were practically no ready made garments and Palmers were the first in town to run a dressmaking section in connection with the shop
11) Arthur Patterson, the Yarmouth naturalist, worked in Palmers warehouse and used hosiery wrappings from the floor to constitute his early natural history notebooks
12) Palmers made batons for Sir Henry Wood, the renowned conductor who founded the famous Proms
13) A pinnacle on St Nicholas Minster in Yarmouth is named after Palmers (Palmers Pinnacle) following a donation to the Church Restoration Fund
14) Palmers was awarded an architectural prize in 2000 for its refurbishment of an ornate 19th century skylight
15) A tightrope walker crossed the Market Place from Palmers Dome in 1997
16) The store's coffee room opened in 1967. It now has 200 seats and sells over 3,000 cups of coffee and over 1,000 scones each week
17) There has been a Hair and Beauty salon on the third floor since 1966
18) The website www.palmerstores.com is the fastest growing part of the business
19) Palmers was rebuilt after being destroyed by fire in 1892
20) The store suffered bomb damage during air raids on Yarmouth in 1941
21) Palmers is the longest established independent store in the country
22) Emma Sturrock, Ecommerce manager, represents the sixth generation of family management
