A Dereham hairdresser who was moved by the plight of a young homeless man in Norwich is preparing for a sponsored silence which she hopes will raise £1,000 for a Norwich homelessness charity.

Jane Rice-Smith, owner of Rouge Et Noir in Dereham, is planning to be silent from 9am to 2pm on Tuesday, March 26, at her salon in the town.

She decided to raise the money after getting to know the young man over the course of several trips into the city.

She said: 'Now it's getting closer I'm feeling a bit worried.

'I've got £700 already so I'm confident I'm going to reach my goal.'
