A painting by a Norfolk artist has been selected to appear on the cover of a CD by the Royal Swedish Navy Band.

Peter Bradfield, from Beetley, near Dereham, said he was 'surprised' to be approached by the band's CD production team to see if his painting Red Tango could be used for their latest release.

The CD, Milonga for Three, features tango and Latin music by well known composers including George Gershwin, Astoer Piazzolla and Silvestre Revueltas.

All of the tracks are performed by the Royal Swedish Navy Band, conducted by Petter Sundkvist, said to be one of Sweden's most sought-after conductors.

The CD also features world-renowned saxophonist Anders Paulsson, one of the first musicians in classical music to have built a solo career around the soprano saxophone.

Mr Bradfield was approached after his oil painting of a couple dancing was spotted in his online gallery.

The married 53-year-old, who works in press relations for companies within the aviation industry, said: 'It came out of the blue. At first when they contacted me, I thought it was some kind of joke and it was a friend teasing me - it is not everyday you get a call asking for permission for a painting to appear on a Swedish Navy Band CD.

'After initial discussions we were able to agree how the painting would look on the cover and I believe the result proves what a great impact this painting makes. It is a great honour for my work to be part of such a prestigious CD.'

Mr Bradfield, who has been painting since 1999, specialises in paintings of dance, particularly Tango, Latin and Flamenco.

He has sold paintings to people around the world, including those living in Australia, the United States, Russia, India, Switzerland, France and Germany, as well as the UK.

He has recently branched out to make his work available through a wide selection of prints, calendars, stationery and gift items.

'I paint for pleasure, it's something I really enjoy doing. I get quite nice comments. I set up my website and it's gone from there,' he said.
