A defibrillator has been put in one of the favourite places of a mother-of-two who helped fundraise for more of the machines to be installed.

One of the life-saving machines has pride of place at Patteson Lodge Activity Centre near Coltishall, used by Girlguiding Norfolk.

It has been erected with funds raised in memory of Janyne Durrant-Pratt, from Frettenham, who died at Papworth Hospital on August 18 2012 – just a day before her 41st birthday.

The activity centre is where Mrs Durrant-Pratt's mother-in-law Felicity Pratt, worked as housekeeper for nine years, before retiring in October this year.

Mrs Durrant-Pratt had been a passionate supporter of a campaign to have more defibrillators in public places after Frettenham Primary School teacher David Board used one to save her life in November 2010, when she had a cardiac arrest.

Mrs Durrant-Pratt had two heart attacks in 2002 while pregnant with her second daughter Lucie, and was diagnosed with left ventricular failure - a condition that meant her heart was not pumping effectively on the left side.

The family were told what they likely outcome would be. In the time she had left Mrs Durrant-Pratt, along with her family, set about raising money to have defibrillators stored inside schools.

After she died her husband Martin and daughters, Sophie, 19, who is at university in Sheffield and Lucie, 13, carried on the work and set up a charity, the JDP Defibrillator Fund.

Mr Pratt, 45, who has now moved to Catfield, said: 'The defibrillator at Patteson Lodge is special as it was the place where we would go to for a cup of tea and have a catch up with my mum and Sharon Hunt (the lodge administrator). It is also the place where we held one of the last events Janyne was able to get to, which was a raffle. So the place has always been close to our hearts.

'Janyne would have been absolutely overwhelmed with Patteson Lodge being one of the places with a defibrillator, she would have loved it.'

The defibrillator will be available for use by all people visiting Patteson Lodge, Hautbois House and their campsites and the villages of Coltishall, Horstead and Hautbois.

Other defibrillators have been installed with the help of the JDP Defibrillator Fund at Drayton Middle School, in Mulbarton near local shops and at Hainford School.

Mr Pratt's mother, Felicity Pratt, 69, from Stalham, said: 'Sharon first put forward the idea about having a defibrillator here and everyone was for it. It is nice to have something here in Janyne's memory.'
