A daughter has said she 'can not understand' what was going through the head of the person who left her father with a broken arm and a dislocated elbow in a hit and run.

David Nicholls, 54, from Beccles, was hit by a red car on the A146 just outside Oulton Broad on Wednesday, September 19, at around 5.45pm.

The driver of the car did not stop, and Mr Nicholls, who was cycling home from his job in Lowestoft was left with a broken arm, dislocated elbow, and cuts and bruises to his arm and hands.

His daughter, Jessie Nicholls, 26, said her dad was left in shock following the incident.

She said: 'I think he was in shock, he didn't see the car as by accounts from witnesses the car tried to over take him but got so close it hit his back wheel.

'I was in all honestly taken aback that someone would hit anyone off a bike and leave them there without having any idea of the amount of damage they had done.

'My dad was lucky that he sustained quite minor injuries in comparison to what could have happened.'

The family are now looking for witnesses to the incident, but Miss Nicholls said she didn't understand why someone would not stop in that situation.

She said: 'I don't really understand what could go through someone's head in that split second to make them carry on driving.

'My step-mum and I have both asked him whether he was keen to get back on his bike and he said he would. We would obviously prefer that he didn't.
