Independent traders at Cromer have teamed up to organise a late-night shopping event aimed at encouraging townsfolk to buy their Christmas gifts locally.

Cafes, art galleries, clothing stores and gift shops will be opening until 7pm next Saturday, December 7, with many opting to stay open even later.

Alison Ewbank, of Happy Feet children’s shoe shop, in Hamilton Road, said: “We have been really pleased with how many local businesses have come together to support such and important local event.”

The evening is being supported by Cromer Chamber of Trade and Business, with organisers hoping it will become a regular event.

Julie Cole, of Benedict’s Cove gift shop, said competing against bigger retailers was a challenge for smaller business owners.

She added: “Many of our customers say they would like to spend more of their time shopping in the town but can’t always fit it in around their daily routine, so evenings like this can really make a difference.”
