Some 5,000 crocuses are in full bloom next to these busy traffic lights in Downham Market.
Last autumn Downham Rotary Club in collaboration with Downham in Bloom planted corms in support of Rotary's Purple4Polio campaign at the Amien Garden.
Rotary Clubs throughout the UK have planted some 7 million crocus corms to draw attention to Rotary's committed fight to eradicate polio across the world. The number of polio endemic countries has dropped from 125 in 1985 to just 3 in 2016 and over the past 30 years some 2.5billion children have been vaccinated.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been working alongside Rotary for many years and gives £2 for every £1 raised by Rotary in support of the donations for the eradication of polio. The purple crocus is the symbol of Rotary's worldwide campaign representing the purple dye marking the finger of each child immunised.
