Norfolk Police and South Norfolk Council are supporting a new Pub Watch initiative which aims to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime that excessive alcohol and drug abuse

Members from the Cross Keys, Green Dragon, Queens Head, Robert Kett, White Hart, Wymondham Ex Servicemen's Club, Wymondham Rugby Club, Wymondham Sports Bar and Wymondham Town Football Club, will meet regularly as part of the initiative to discuss issues they have experienced.

They will also ban individuals responsible for any trouble caused from all establishments.

South Norfolk Sergeant Adam Flello said: "Whilst Wymondham is generally a very pleasant place to enjoy a drink there are a minority of individuals who either drink too much or partake in illegal substances and cause low level crime or anti-social behaviour.

"We want to ensure that this is dealt with and the Pub Watch initiative helps to pro-actively tackle crime in the town."

Kira Semmence is the chairman at the meetings and landlady of the Cross Keys pub, in Market Place. She wants customers to understand it is not about banning everyone.

She said: "It's not about people getting drunk and doing silly things as we all do that. If someone comes in here and breaks a glass they are not going to be barred.

"It's for incidents like last year. I had a someone last year who would come in and be abusive to staff and customers who we barred.

"Wymondham is a lovely town and we don't have a lot of trouble but when there is people don't understand how it affects pubs."

Justin Harvey, landlord at the Green Dragon, in Church Street, said: "It is something that is run in a lot of towns to butt out problems which are found everywhere.

"The world is changing and in towns we need to start looking after each other, including the pubs and landlords. It is a way we can keep united and keep the riff-raff out of our pubs."

The landlords have set-up a messaging group so they can keep in contact should anything happen.
