Young volunteers have been helping to discover what lurks beneath Castle Meadow as they help Norwich charity Missing Kind clear its basement.

The 15 National Citizen Service volunteers have been busy excavating the basement of the current building which has already revealed the structure of an old house and another property that is believed to have been used as a jail cell.

The site dates back to the 1400s, and the youngsters have also helped expose a tunnel or underpass that was previously covered in rubble.

In addition, their work has revealed a number of interesting historical artefacts, including St John's Ambulance guidebooks from the 1930s.

Missing Kind have been the occupants of the building since 2015 and Abbie Clark, its marketing and social media manager, said that the organisation's goal is to 'inspire kindness in the community', which it does through its KindaKafe and KindaBusiness projects.

Those interested in discovering the site for themselves have the opportunity to do so on Heritage open days.
