A search was carried out around 2.30pm on Sunday 28 January where officers seized around 1000 plants and a large amount of hydroponics equipment at an industrial unit in Chequers Road.

Two men were arrested in connection with the incident and were taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Sang Dinh Nguyen, 51, of Santareen Road in Norwich, and Son Bui, 30, of no fixed address, were both subsequently charged with being concerned in the production of a Class B drug, namely cannabis.

Both have been remanded in custody to appear at Norwich Magistrates Court on Tuesday, January 30.

On Monday (January 29), there was a strong smell of cannabis around the industrial estate.

A police forensics van and a marked car could be seen parked outside the unit as officers continued searches of the scene.

Officers could be seen searching inside the premises while bags of cannabis were brought out of the unit.

The search prompted a lot of attention from neighbouring businesses.

Not many people in the area wanted to talk about the discovery although one man, who works at a business nearby, said it was a surprise to find out what had been happening.

He said: 'During the summer I have smelt it (the cannabis) really bad but we thought it was elsewhere.

'It was a big surprise - I thought it was empty. I honestly thought the unit was empty and didn't realise there was anyone in there.'

Update: Both men were due to appear at Norwich Magistrates Court today but did not. They are now expected to be before the courts tomorrow (Wednesday, January 31).
