Two men have been arrested in Thetford over the theft of cooking oil.

The pair were arrested on suspicion of theft after their van was stopped in the Breckland town in the early hours of this morning (October 20).

The oil was recovered and van seized. Both van and males were also arrested in connection to similar theft in North Norfolk.

The arrests are the latest in a trend for cooking oil to be stolen that has prompted police to warn restaurants and takeaways in parts of Norfolk that waste oil needs to be securely stored.

Industry experts say stolen cooking oil is often converted into unregulated biodiesel and sold on the black market.
