The Little Red Roaster's shop on St Andrew's Hill posted a note on its door on Monday morning letting customers know about the incident.

Owner Darren Groom said the business had suffered vandalism in the past, but that, on this occasion, thieves had broken in and stolen its takings at some point over the weekend.

While they feared they would remain closed for the day, by lunchtime on Monday they had reopened the St Andrew's Hill coffee shop.

Their Grove Road shop and market stall - where the business began - were unaffected.

Police confirmed they were called to the shop at roughly 7am on Monday morning, and said burglars had forced entry to the business before stealing cash.

The break-in is believed to have happened between 5pm on Saturday, April 7 and 6.45am on Monday, April 9.

It has been linked to another incident at nearby Pinky and Perky hairdressers, on St Andrew's Street, which was also targeted.
