Ten men arrested after armed police and dog unit sent to mass brawl in Norwich

One person was assaulted and suffered minor injuries as a result of the brawl, which took place in Magdalen Street.

Officers were called to the city centre street near its junction with Magdalen Close at about 11pm on Thursday night following reports of an altercation involving a number of men.

A large number of officers, including the dog team and armed officers, were sent to the scene.

Ten men, eight in their 20s, one in his late teens and another in his 40s, have been arrested.

A police spokesman said officers were investigating the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

On Friday there were no signs of the trouble which had happened a few hours earlier and life was carrying on as normal.

One man who works in the area, but did not wish to give his name, said: “I’m a little bit surprised but really, it’s one of those things.”

Calvin, 50, who did not wish to give his surname, witnessed police in the area at around 12.30am on Friday.

He said was shocked police hadn’t cordoned off the area, given armed police had been called.

He said: “The most obvious surprise was that firearm police were there but they hadn’t cordoned off the road.

“I was shocked. I couldn’t believe how close people were standing about when the police had guns, I thought they would have at least cordoned off the road.”

Calvin said the area often had difficulties which he worried put people off from visiting, he said: “This area is dreadful, you get a lot of trouble down here, but it seems the police don’t police down here.

“We’ve had problems down here for years. It stops people from coming,” he said.
