Suffolk Constabulary are calling on witnesses to come forward after a man was caught spitting on a dead man's shrine.

Police are appealing for anyone with footage after a man was filmed spitting on the shrine of John Riley, 51, who was found dead on a bench outside McDonald's in London Road North, Lowestoft, on September 21.

Days and weeks after his death, the bench was transformed into a memorial bearing flowers, cards and messages.

On Sunday October 21, a video circulated on Facebook of a man spitting on the shrine, sparking outrage throughout the community before the post was removed from social media after the severe backlash.

Since the investigation began, a man has been interviewed in relation to the act.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Suffolk Police on 101, quoting reference number 37/60977/18. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

At the time, a Suffolk police spokesman said: 'Police have received a report of a public order offence that occurred on London Road North in Lowestoft just before 6pm on Sunday, October 21, and an investigation is under way.'
