Shoplifter released after paying for items he stole with the money in his pocket

A shoplifter stopped by police was released after it emerged he had enough money in his pocket to pay for the items he had stolen.

Breckland Police said on Twitter they had stopped a shoplifter who had attempted to steal some beer, ham and cheese in Thetford on Friday, October 26 at around 2pm.

They said: “Just attended a shoplifter who stole beer, ham and cheese in a supermarket in Thetford. He was dealt with by Community Resolution as he paid for the items with the money he had in his pocket!”

At around 5pm, police dealt with another shoplifter in Thetford who had stolen items worth £124 after he was discovered by staff members in a store car park.

Breckland Police said: “Another shoplifting in Thetford today for £124. Offender found in a local supermarket car park by other staff members and dealt with by police at the roadside.”
