Two burglars who were caught “red handed” in a Suffolk flat were arrested after the owner and his neighbour chased after them, a court has heard.

Wayne Lupton returned to his basement flat in Victoria Terrace, Lowestoft on January 26 to find two men in the premises, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

One of them was holding a television remote control, cables and a sound bar and when Mr Lupton challenged them he was told to mind his own business, said Joanne Eley, prosecuting.

The men had then barged past Mr Lupton and made for the back door.

Mr Lupton shouted to a neighbour for help and tried to stop the men leaving.

He then chased one of the men to a flat in Pier Terrace and waited for police to arrive while his neighbour chased after the second intruder and stopped him near Victoria Terrace,

Before the court were Sean Maginn, aged 52, of Pier Terrace, Lowestoft, and David Hawthorn, aged 39, of North Denes, Lowestoft, who both admitted burglary during which a 60in flat screen television and other electrical equipment were stolen.

Maginn was jailed for 30 months and Hawthorn was jailed for 26 months.
