Live coverage of a special meeting in Cromer where the public get to quiz police chiefs on what happened during a weekend of disorder in Cromer.

Police and Crime Commissioner Lorne Green has arranged the meeting to allow the public to quiz chiefs including Chief Constable Simon Bailey about the weekend of August 18/20, when the town was in 'lock-down'.

There will also be an update on the review into policing in Cromer over that weekend.

Mr Green said: 'When I hear words like apocalypse and lock-down used in relation to Cromer - then I think 'Hang on'.

'We are one of the safest counties in the country and have an outstanding chief constable - I think this was an aberration,

'I hope the meeting gives the people of Cromer an opportunity to air their concerns about what happened on the weekend, and to get specific answers.

'I believe everyone in Norfolk has the right to be safe and feel safe in the county. But on this occasion people did not feel safe and something went wrong. We need to know what transpired and why people felt let down by the police,

'We also need to know how those people who did bad things on that weekend are being tracked down to face justice, and make sure it cannot happen again.'

There were several incidents of public disorder in the town over the weekend, but police have denied that Cromer was on 'lock-down'. Venues in the seaside town closed their doors on the Saturday night due to thefts and anti-social behaviour.

Three men have been arrested in connection with the rape of a young woman at a bus stop in Cadogan Road in the town on the evening of Friday, August 18.

Norfolk Constabulary is investigating the possibility the attack could be linked with the widespread disorder on the weekend.

Two men, aged in their late teens, have been released on bail until September 25 while enquiries continue.

Another man in his 30s, who was arrested by police in Essex, was released under investigation.

The special police accountability forum is at 5.30pm at Cromer Parish Hall in Church Street.
