A pub employee allegedly tried to flee the country after stealing more than £1,400 and a bottle of wine, a court has heard.

Tobias James Blowers has pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing £1,420 in cash and a bottle of wine belonging to the Kings Arms in Blakeney, where he worked.

Norwich Magistrates' Court heard on Thursday that Blowers, 27 and of Harbour Way in Blakeney, was arrested by police as he tried to board a plane at Norwich airport.

The court heard he told officers that '10 more minutes and I'd have got away with it'. His passport was confiscated after the incident. He was released on conditional bail on September 18.

But the court heard on Thursday, during a breach of bail hearing, that he breached the conditions of having to live and sleep at his parents' address.

Chairman of the bench John Rockliff changed the defendant's bail, so that he must report to Fakenham Police Station between 3pm and 4pm Monday to Friday.

Mr Blowers will next appear on the original charge of theft at magistrates' court on October 24.
