Last week suspicious activity was reported where police believe that the offenders were looking to steal an occupant's Defender.

Production of the iconic vehicle came to an end in 2016 and the value has rocketed and the number of thefts have risen dramatically due to demand.

In April, the vehicle tracking company Tracker announced that the Land Rover Defender had been ranked as one of the top 10 most stolen vehicles during 2016.

Andy Barrs, head of police liaison at the company, said in a statement: 'We have seen the number of Defender thefts double this year compared to 2015 it shows just how popular these cars have become, particularly since they are no longer in production, making them a major target for organised car thieves.'
