Police have started using new powers to tackle street drinkers in a Fenland town.
New Public Space Protection Orders came into force in Wisbech on Friday.
The were drawn up by Fenland District Council amid rising complaints about drink-related anti-social behaviour.
Officers have been carrying out foot patrols of St Peters Garden and Tillery Park over the weekend.
Officers later posted on social media: “Further patrols conducted by the neighbourhood policing team in the area of St Peters Garden in Wisbech where four persons were spoken to in regarding their alcohol consumption.
“One person had open cans of alcohol which was disposed of and was given education about the area and the new PSPO Powers.”
Under the new PSPO, it will be an offence to possess any open containers of alcohol in the designated areas. Anyone disobeying it risks a fine of £75.
