High visibility patrols will be carried out along the Suffolk Broads over the summer months, with officers and the Broads Authority joining forces.

At a launch event on Saturday at the Waveney River Centre in Burgh St Peter, the joint patrols were unveiled by police as officers from the Special Constabulary are set to work in partnership with the Rangers from the Broads Authority.

They will tackle issues such as breaches of bylaws, anti-social behaviour and theft.

Over the summer months the officers and the rangers will be carrying out patrols on the water, and during the closed season the officers will be carrying out land-based patrols.

Inspector Richard Hill, of Suffolk Constabulary, said: 'With the Broads Authority doing their regular patrols every day, we have created a link with them and we will be conducting joint patrols to provide a highly visible presence.'

Head Ranger at the Broads Authority, Adrian Vernon, said: 'Working in partnership with the Special Constabulary means that we can deal with issues affecting the area and those responsible so that we can continue to preserve the Broads and the special qualities of the area.'
