Second police officer assaulted in two days

A police officer was assaulted last night, one day after another officer received head injuries.

Inspector Lou Provart said the unnamed officer was “ok but bruised” and that more deterrence against assaulting emergency service workers was needed.

He said: “Law change can’t come soon enough.”

A woman is in custody for public order offences and assaulting a police officer following the incident on Edward Street in Norwich.

A man was charged and remanded to court acccused of assault causing actual bodily harm and being concerned in the supply of class A drugs after giving a female Norwich officer head injuries on August 15.

A tweet by assistant chief constable Paul Sanford said: “We spoke this afternoon and she is in good spirits.”
