A police officer suffered a cut to his arm while trying to detain a 40-year-old man in Wymondham.

Police were called to a property in the Norfolk market town at 12pm today (March 27) to arrest a man for criminal damage and assault.

PC Dan Taylor said when officers arrived, the man was 'obstructive' and attempted to go back into his home.

It resulted in officers having to use PAVA spray, which is similar to pepper spray, to try and control the man.

PC Taylor said: 'During the struggle, one officer suffered a cut to his forearm.'

The man was arrested for criminal damage, assault and assault with intent to resist arrest.

He is currently at Wymondham police station for further questioning.

PC Taylor said both officers were wearing body cameras.

In Norfolk 390 officers were assaulted between April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017 - more than one officer every day of the year.
