Stuart Jones, from Fleggburgh, was supposed to fly to Romania this morning (June 7) for a stag with ten friends but has had to cancel his plans after a bag containing the document was stolen from his car.

A 27-year-old plumber, he was staying at his girlfriend's house on Webster Way in Caister and had packed his clothes, currency and passport in a rucksack, which he put in his car, a VW Golf, at about 10.30pm on Thursday (June 6).

He had got his bag ready the night before and put it in the car so he would not forget it, he said.

But after waking at 3.30am and checking the car he noticed the bag was missing.

"I was really confused. I went inside, thinking I had left it inside," Mr Jones said.

He also called his friend who is getting married.

"He's really gutted for me," he said.

"It's a pretty awful feeling to tell my mates I can't go."

The plan had been for Mr Jones to drive to Stalham, where he would meet with friends before travelling together to Stansted, and then on to Bucharest, capital of Romania, for a two-night stag do.

"I was looking forward to it," Mr Jones said.

The trip was planned in January.

Mr Jones had paid £600 on flights and accommodation.

"It's ruined a good weekend for me," he said.

He added: "It's the one time I left something valuable in the car and it's gone missing.

"It's bizarre, they had obviously gone rummaging in the car, but I have a decent camera, about £400 worth, but that was untouched."

Police have confirmed the theft has been reported and appealed to anyone with information to phone 101.

Mr Stuart said that a neighbour's car was also broken into.

He said the thieves had taken stolen money from a bag before dumping the bag outside.

He was hopeful the culprits had also dumped his bag and not taken his passport, and was walking around the village, searching for it.

"I'm just a bit stressed really," he said.

On Friday morning (June 7) a woman had posted on social media that her car had been burgled on Webster Way.

"Nothing of value taken, just money," she wrote.
