A taxi driver has escaped a ban after he was caught driving more than 30mph above the 50mph speed limit.

Ziad Tahboob, 38, was caught by police travelling at 82mph in a 50mph stretch of the A47 at North Burlingham.

Norwich Magistrates Court heard on Monday (June 4) that police had followed Tahboob and captured the defendant driving at between 82mph and 85mph.

Tahboob, of Beverley Close, Norwich, questioned the speed he was alleged to be driving at on May 6 last year.

Ian Fisher, representing Tahboob, said his client accepted driving at 65mph but not 82mph.

The defendant, who had a clean driving licence, did however accept speeding.

He was given six penalty points, ordered to pay a £250 fine, £100 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
